Are you happy with your spiritual fitness? Many of us are quick to want to improve our physical health but neglect our spiritual well-being. As Christians, we must recognize when we become complacent in our spiritual walk and take the necessary steps to get back in shape.
In Matthew 4:4, the Bible reminds us that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” So, just as we exercise our bodies, we must exercise spiritually. We can grow spiritually by reading the bible, witnessing to others, being involved in ministry, and praying for others.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 compares our spiritual journey to a race. We must run in such a way as to win the prize, which is eternal life. Just as athletes go into strict training, we must also discipline ourselves to become spiritually fit. We cannot run aimlessly or fight without purpose. Instead, we must strike a blow to our body and make it our slave, so that after we have preached to others, we ourselves will not be disqualified.
As Christians, we must remember that we are not called to sit around after we are saved. In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus commands us to make disciples of all nations and to teach them to obey everything he has commanded us. We must trust and obey, for there is no other way.
Let us all strive to run the race and trust in Jesus, remembering how gracious God is to save us from our sins and give us a new life. May the grace and peace of the Lord be with you always.
