As we watch the news, it’s difficult not to feel overwhelmed by the endless stream of wars and natural disasters that seem to plague our world. But rather than being discouraged by these events, perhaps they can serve as a reminder of something much greater: the promise of a new heaven and a new earth.

For Christians, the idea of Jesus’ return and the creation of a new world is central to their faith. And yet, in the midst of the chaos and suffering we see around us, it can be easy to forget this fundamental truth. But as 2 Peter reminds us, the world we currently inhabit is temporary, and one day it will be destroyed by fire.

This may sound frightening, but it’s important to remember that this destruction is not the end. Rather, it is a necessary step towards the creation of a new world, one where righteousness reigns and all is made new. As we wait for this new world to come, we are called to live holy and godly lives, always looking forward to the day when Christ will return.

Of course, this can be easier said than done. In the face of so much suffering and injustice, it can be difficult to hold onto hope and maintain our faith. But we are reminded that God is patient and merciful, and that he has given us the opportunity to repent and turn towards him.

As we continue to wait for Christ’s return, let us not lose courage. Let us continue to preach the gospel to all nations, sharing the message of God’s love and mercy with those around us. And let us also pray for ourselves and our brothers and sisters, that we may be kept in God’s love and mercy until the day of Christ’s return.

So yes, the world may be filled with chaos and suffering, but let us never forget that Jesus is coming back soon, and that in him we have the promise of a new world, one where all will be made right and all tears will be wiped away.
